Job summary

This role presents an exciting opportunity within Logistics UK’s policy team for an individual experienced in managing and producing policy research. If you are seeking to advance into a more senior position and dedicatedly address challenges affecting our members in the logistics sector, this role is made for you.

In this position, you will be responsible for conducting thorough research, analysing data, and gaining valuable insights to support our ongoing policy initiatives. Our key policy themes encompass a wide range of important areas, including but not limited to growth and productivity, infrastructure and planning, decarbonisation, skills, trade and borders, and safe and efficient road freight.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to travel to our regional offices, including our London office situated in Victoria Street and our Tunbridge Wells office.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the way in understanding the latest trends impacting logistics in the UK and global economies.
  • Be the driving force in assessing the impact of government policies and legislation on our members, empowering them with invaluable insights.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and member forums to develop policy positions that matter on relevant topics.
  • Work alongside a talented team to produce high-quality research and reports that meet the highest standards.
  • Play a vital role in delivering essential information and expert advice to our valued members.
  • Identify exciting opportunities to develop new information and benchmarking products to meet our members' needs.
  • Join forces with other Logistics UK teams to support our overarching strategy.
  • Become well-versed in relevant national statistics and indicators, ensuring that our policy positions are well-founded and informed.
  • Contribute significantly to formulating evidence-based policy positions and responses in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Engage with stakeholders, leveraging your expertise, to drive impactful policy discussions.
  • Confidently deliver presentations to our members and a diverse range of external stakeholders, including speaking at our events.
  • Stay on top of the latest developments and ensure that our members are promptly informed and advised.
  • Create high-quality reports, consultation responses, and briefing documents for various audiences.
  • Provide expert support on policy issues and contribute to events and reports by guaranteeing the economic and financial content is of stellar quality.
  • Collaborate with our members and colleagues to identify fresh avenues for information and analysis.
  • Effectively oversee external research projects as required.
  • Work seamlessly across the organisation to achieve broader business objectives, partnering with Member Relations, Communications, and Marketing.

Requirements

  • A degree in a quantitative field, such as economics, data analysis, statistics, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in similar roles, working in a business group, commercial or government setting.
  • Strong numerical proficiency with a track record of utilising Excel for data analysis.
  • Excellent skills in analysing, interpreting, and presenting data in a clear and concise manner to different audiences.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly in producing in-house reports, briefings, and publications.
  • A naturally curious and investigative mindset.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage project workstreams effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Genuine interest in the field of logistics.
  • Awareness of political and governmental dynamics.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to fulfil job responsibilities.
  • Keen eye for detail and a commitment to precision.
